Random Chat Guide: How Random Chat Works
Random chat is a simple way to start a one-to-one conversation with someone you did not already know. This guide explains the Stranger Talk flow without promising that every match will be available or a perfect fit.
1. Start Random Chat
Open Random Chat and complete the current eligibility and onboarding steps. Check the Terms for the age requirement before using the feature.
2. Wait for an eligible match
The matching system looks for another available participant who can be connected to you. Availability changes continuously, so a match may be immediate or may take longer.
3. Start with an easy question
You do not need a perfect opening line. Ask about hobbies, music, travel, food, films or something from the conversation. If you need ideas, use the conversation starters.
4. Stay in control
You are not required to continue a conversation. If you are uncomfortable or simply want a different conversation, use the available Leave or Next controls. Next should move you away from the current conversation rather than bringing old messages into a new match.
5. Remember that profiles are not proof of identity
A display name, age, social handle or story is not independent identity verification. Treat claims made by strangers as unverified and avoid sharing information that could identify or financially expose you.
6. Use safety controls early
If someone is abusive, threatening, sexually pressuring you, attempting a scam or repeatedly ignoring boundaries, leave the conversation and use Block or Report. Read the Safety Center for practical guidance.
7. Random chat is not private communication
A one-to-one conversation is not the same thing as end-to-end encrypted communication. Do not send passwords, OTPs, PINs, financial credentials, identity documents or other secrets.
8. When should you use Private Chat instead?
If you already know the person you want to talk with and want restricted access, Private Chat uses a temporary code. See the Private Chat Guide for the separate flow.
